“who we are is a lifetime in the making. and and while life is made up of millions of moments, they do not define it. it is the challenges that we face that defines us by testing our beliefs, by testing ourselves. some challenges we triumph over and others we barely survive through. but the challenges of life make us stronger by showing us our weaknesses. they constantly force us to redefine who we are.”—
_whenever i mix powdered iced tea like lipton or nestea - i dilute the powder crystals with a little hot water before i add the cold, iced water. it helps bring out the flavor of the tea even more.
_several times during the past couple of years, my family would be on 4 different countries at the same time. my dad would be in vietnam or syria, my mum in the philippines, my brother in bulgaria and i would be in the USA. skype has become my best friend.
_i cannot live without steamed, white rice. two days would probably be the maximum - any more time after that, i morph into my dr. jekyll persona and take it out on the next person to ask me for something it’s not pretty - ask keith or monique… one word: Spain.
_when i was 7 years old and i saw beauty and the beast for the first time - i remember seeing the library in the castle and thinking to myself “one day - i will have a library just like that!”. Fast forward 17 years and i still want a library like that. now i am convinced that the man i will marry will propose to me with a massive library full of books instead of a diamond ring….. le sigh.
_just like so many of my friends - i name inanimate, everyday objects. colin is my old ibook, chuck is my new macbook, finn is my iPod, darcy is my old one, Raz is my cellphone, boris is my car, walter is my backup drive and stella is my camera. side note: i do talk to them when they refuse to behave.
_i live on green tea and coffee and alot of water. just call me a green tea monster…
_my grandmother is turning 78 this year and she has nary a grey hair or a prominent wrinkle in sight and there is no such thing here as botox - her secret is using Ponds cold cream everyday, her face probably has not touched water since 1949 and she religiously applies cold cream everyday to cleanse and moisturize her skin. now - i wash my face but slather cold cream on after. i have to say it does work… ask me again in 60 years
_i love to read… everything and anything. when i buy purses - the choice is based on whether i can fit a book+my moleskine in it. Optional would also include the following items camera+pens+measuring tape+travel coffee mug+kleenex tissues+hand sanitizer+eyeglass case+wallet+cellphone+iPod….. - this is probably the main reason why i love tote bags so much… my biggest expense the past years has not been travel - it was book buying.
_i collect starbucks city mugs from every city i visit. most recently, i’ve been lusting after the architectural series that they released showing the city skylines in this gorgeous blueprint sketch form… i covet thee mugs….
_as a designer i am very particular about what pens and notebooks i use. nothing gives me greater joy than to receive a fresh new sketchbook/notebook item… but moleskines just give me a natural high…. a never ending giddiness that results in me whipping it out every so often to sketch or jot something down. pens are a bit trickier… i despise rolling ball points… but the pilot precise V5 extra fine is one of the finer ones i have come across… needless to say my frequent trips to the local pen shop are for pilot pens.
_the need to travel has always been in my system. i crave the feeling of exploring somewhere i have never been before. i work to travel. i recall in my younger years i wanted to be a professional tourist. now - i want to be on that show “globetrekker” and get paid to experience the world.
_i have stick straight hair. it won’t hold a curl or a wave or anything that resembles those “had someone run their hands throughout it” bed hair. a salon assistant couldn’t believe i did not know what a curling iron was for - burning my hair was far from my priorities. needless to say - i still don’t use one even though it might be the step towards my coveted bed hair.
_if i could drink one alcoholic beverage for the rest of my life it would a tie between a bailey’s laced hot chocolate or simon’s bloody mary’s.
_i don’t have ugly or stupid friends. i can’t help that all my friends are such intelligent sexy beasts…. its just a fact - deal with it.
_when i get bored i sit at my computer and browse for however long until i tire of it. a guilty pleasure is to find cute icons to use on my computer. another guilty pleasure is to look through flickr for awesome photos and use them as my desktop wallpaper. on occasion i have fallen asleep just browsing.
_it may sound kooky but i consult a bag of runes everyday. my friend joanne got me into them - ask a question, any kind of question, pull a rune and read its significance… scary thing is - alot of times its right. it doesn’t tell me what numbers to bet on the lottery - it just gives me direction and advice and perspective on questions i have about life.
_when i start thinking and brainstorming i tend to stroke from between my eyes down my nose and back again… don’t ask me why - i just do it. many successful ideas have come from my schnoz stroking.
_i am addicted to twitter - look for cheekychild…..
_whenever i got my paycheck - i would ask tiff if she wanted to hit the kate spade store with me - which was about a 45 minute drive out of houston. needless to say - we made many trips.
_one of the goals in my life is to speak at least 5 languages fluently. Now i can speak 3 languages fluently: english/spanish/tagalog. I’ve been taking french lessons and can do conversational french. Next on the list - italian, japanese and portuguese.
_when i was around 5 years old - i convinced my parents to buy me white cowboy boots with fringe. i wore it with everything and i mean EVERYTHING. it is probably my greatest fashion achievement yet.
_chloe dao from project runway taught me how to sew in her design studio. i was star struck for the first minute - then she proceeded to show me how to do a french seam. now i know how to sew a french seam. since i lack in the party trick department - i figured that could be my party trick.
_ i admire hands. it’s one of the first things i look at on the opposite sex.
_if there is one thing i could do for the rest of my life - it would be to just listen. luckily i am surrounded with people that have such great stories to tell. i would be content to be their sounding board.
_i LOVE doing my own laundry. there is nothing more satisfying to me than inhaling deeply into the dryer after it finishes a cycle of my towels, linens and socks… i usually pull out all my dry clothes throw it on my bed and burrow into it…. mmmmm….. toasty.
“Eventually I discovered for myself the utterly simple prescription for creativity: be intensely yourself. Don’t try to be outstanding; don’t try to be a success; don’t try to do pictures for others to look at - just please yourself.”—Ralph Steiner (via heypoopie)
“Real isn’t how you are made," said the Horse. "It’s a thing that happens to you. When someone loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real." "Does it hurt?" asked the Rabbit. "Sometimes," said the Horse, for he was always truthful. "When you are Real you don’t mind being hurt." "Does it happen all at once, like being wound up," he asked, "or bit by bit?" "It doesn’t happen all at once," said the Horse. "You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in your joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.”—
“We spend our whole lives worrying about the future, planning for the future, trying to predict the future, as if figuring it out will cushion the blow. But the future is always changing. The future is the home of our deepest fears and wildest hopes. But one thing is certain when it finally reveals itself. The future is never the way we imagined it.”—Meredith Grey - Grey’s Anatomy “Here’s to the Future”
“When you’re young, your whole life is about the pursuit of fun. Then, you grow up and learn to be cautious. You could break a bone or a heart. You look before you leap and sometimes you don’t leap at all because there’s not always someone there to catch you. And in life, there’s no safety net. When did it stop being fun and start being scary?”—Sex and The City (via quotewhore)
